Oxford Climate Society Event: Transitioning to a low carbon economy in the Gulf

Conveners: The Oxford Climate Society

Speakers: Dr Rabia Ferroukhi; Dr Fuad Hasanov

The event will address the opportunities and barriers to a transition to a low carbon economy in the GCC, discussing both energy transition and economic diversification. This is particularly relevant given the GCC countries reliance on fossil fuel for their export and fiscal revenues and the potential risk of them turning into 'stranded nations'. We are hosting Dr Rabia Ferroukhi, Director of the Knowledge, Policy and Finance Center at the International Renewable Energy Agency, and Dr Fuad Hasanov, Senior Economist at the International Monetary Fund and co-author of "Breaking the oil spell" an edited book on economic diversification in the Gulf Cooperation Council.
